It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.
TI is searching for a skilled and experienced candidate to manage TI’s EarlyON programming. The purpose of this program initiative is to align with the Ontario Child Care and Family Support Program Service Management and Funding Guidelines by providing sustainable, culturally appropriate programming. The incumbent will foster a healthy and safe environment that allows Inuit children and their families to learn about their history and celebrate their identity with a sense of pride. The incumbent will manage the Community Action Program for Children, CAPC (Parenting), as well as the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program, CPNP (Pre-Post Natal) programs.
Responsibilities
- Providing the framework and guidance for the delivery of client workshops and activities and responding to the varying needs of families (such as health, risk factors and nutrition);
- Providing guidance for the referral of families to additional supports and services;
- Managing the planning and implementation of programming workshops;
- Overseeing the implementation of protocols which maintain activity spaces;
- Supervising program staff and developing training and work plans;
- Carrying out administration tasks including, but not limited to: staff scheduling and leave approval, evaluating quality of services (soliciting client feedback and addressing client concerns), participant and service data gathering, record keeping and file maintenance; and
- Managing budgets and ensuring program reporting is completed and on time.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of issues related to Inuit families and children, and knowledge of Inuit culture, values, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills for group facilitation and community engagement, public speaking and presentation skills, computer literacy skills and community outreach skills are necessary.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team, coordinate meetings, events, and activities, work in a busy environment and in stressful situations, and work occasional evenings and weekends are requirements of the position.
- A diploma in Early Childhood Education is preferred and being a member of the College of Early Childhood Educators is required. Three (3) or more years of related work experience in a social services environment working with children and families and two (2) years supervising, directing staff and/or leading a team are needed. Fluency in English is required; the ability to communicate in Inuktitut is an asset. An acceptable driver’s abstract is required.
