Job Description

Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families is a multi service non- profit organization serving Inuit children, youth, and their families. We are dedicated to providing cultural, educational, and support services in a caring, respectful, and collaborative environment that fosters strong and proud Inuit children and families.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Family Well-Being Manager, the Child Welfare Liaison Worker assists families who are involved with child welfare organizations, and/or the Children’s Aid Society to provide guidance and information to parents regarding the process, their rights, and responsibilities. This is a position functions outside of the provincial, child-welfare services and is directly located within Inuuqatigiit Centre as an advocate and support service for the well-being of children and their families.

Hours

37.5 hours – Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all referrals regarding child welfare made to Inuuqatigiit Centre programs and services.
  • Ensure use of a trauma informed practice to support clients and provide culturally and linguistically relevant services.
  • Provide responsive and inclusive guidance, support, resources and advocacy to children, youth, and parents/caregivers.
  • Schedule and supervise family visitations at Inuuqatigiit Centre.
  • Facilitate better working relationships between Inuit community members and CAS workers.
  • Liaise with local CAS to advocate for culturally safe service.
  • Liaise with other service providers to ensure appropriate referrals, system navigation and advocacy.
  • Meet with families at times and locations convenient to the family.
  • Promote services within community and partner agencies, make referrals to other Inuuqatigiit Centre programs and services as needed.
  • Actively participate in case management meetings.
  • Maintain accurate client information in the Inuuqatigiit Centre database.
  • Maintain thorough, orderly, and confidential administrative documents (i.e., case notes intake files, stats etc.).
  • Meet all tracking, evaluation, and reporting requirements of funder and Inuuqatigiit Centre (attendance, project statistics, project targets, surveys, etc.).
  • Complete worker portion of funder reports accurately and on time.
  • Track expenditures against approved budget.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Provide individual support to clients who have experienced violence.
  • Provide crisis intervention to families and individuals as needed.
  • Engage clients in safety planning as needed.
  • Regularly participate in supervision meetings with the FWB Manager
  • Participate in CASO Circle of Care process when requested by parent.
  • Provide after-hours crisis support as approved by Manager.
  • Participate in monthly case management meetings with CASO.
  • Provide responsive and inclusive support services to parents and families including appointment accompaniment, home visits, referrals, crisis intervention, supportive counselling and assistance with CAS processes and protocols.
  • Refer parents/families to appropriate services as required and document the results of these referrals.
  • Seek out opportunities for peer or other support as appropriate in preventing and coping with the effects of vicarious trauma; and
  • Support the planning and delivery of safe and culturally appropriate family/community events, land-based camps and other activities as required.

  • Adhere to and promote the mandate, workplan and mission of Inuuqatigiit Centre.

Working Relationships

  • Develop supportive and professional rapport with Inuuqatigiit Centre staff.
  • Maintain professional and effective rapport; and
  • Assist in the planning and organization of the Inuuqatigiit Centre events (e.g Inuit Day, AGM, Christmas party).

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in related field an asset.
  • Minimum one year experience working in a family-oriented program.
  • Previous experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities as asset.
  • Experience supporting clients with mental health and addiction issues.
  • Experience dealing with cases involving domestic violence
  • Current Police Record Check-Vulnerable Sector required in keeping with Inuuqatigiit Centre Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  • Medical certification of good health.
  • Up-to-date immunization records and TB test, if applicable.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccine (dose 1 & 2) and booster.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to become certified); and
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license an asset.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Inuit descent preferred.
  • Fluency in Inuktitut preferred.
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and community.
  • Knowledge of the needs of Inuit children and youth and issues faced by Inuit parents/caregiver.
  • Knowledge of Inuit and non-Inuit community services and supports.
  • Knowledge of the socio determinants of health that impact Inuit children, youth and families.
  • Experience with legal requirements for Family Court and Criminal Court
  • Knowledge of CYFSA (legislative requirements) and Bill C-92
  • Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a collaborative staff team environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high stress, high noise environment.
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, dedication and commitment to children and families; and
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
