Job Description

Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families is a multi service non- profit organization serving Inuit children, youth, and their families. Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Manager of Youth Programs, the Youth Worker uses a team approach in the planning and delivery of the youth evening activities. The Youth Worker Assistant will work with the Youth Life Promotions team on preparing and delivering evening programs for youth ages 13-24.

Hours

4-8 hours per week, with occasional evening and weekend hours required

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of programs and activities for youth.
  • In collaboration with the youth team plan, schedule and deliver weekly activities After School program and activities.
  • Assist with other youth programming activities as required.
  • Facilitate a positive experience for participants.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to all participants.
  • Always ensure participant and staff safety.
  • Upkeep all administrative records (e.g., attendance).
  • Write incident reports as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Promote the regular exchange of information about children and program, between staff and parents.
  • Assist with DNT Transportation pickups and drop offs.
  • Assist in daily cleaning and sanitization of the program space 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Inuit descent preferred.
  • Some High School; and
  • Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities

Skills and Knowledge

  • Fluency in Inuktitut would be an asset.
  • Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of the needs of Inuit children and families.
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and community.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies for children and youth.
  • Knowledge of Inuit and non-Inuit community services and supports for children and youth.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software.
  • Effective leadership skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high-stress, high noise environment.
  • Flexibility; and
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to children.

 Conditions of Employment 

  • Medical certification of good health.
  • TB Test, if applicable, and other immunizations up-to-date.
  • Negative COVID-19 test.
  • Police Record Check – Vulnerable Sector required in keeping with Inuuqatigiit Centre Personnel Policies and Procedures; and
  • First Aid/CPR certification or willingness to become certified.
