Job Description

Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families is a multi service non- profit organization serving Inuit children, youth, and their families. Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Youth Worker assist, prepares, and deliver evening activities for the Makkuktukuvik After School Program. The Youth Worker will assist evening program staff with serving dinner, DNT transportation, planning and delivering activities, and daily cleaning. The Youth Worker will communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator for scheduling, concerns, ideas, and supplies needed for program.

Hours

10 hours/week

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist program team with preparing activities and supplies
  • Plan, facilitate and lead evening program activities for youth
  • Adapt programs to include all participants
  • Communicate effectively with Program Coordinator on program needs
  • Assist with serving dinner and snacks
  • Assist with DNT Transportation pickups and drop offs
  • Supervise participants in activities at all times
  • Be a positive role model and use positive behaviour guidance strategies
  • Actively participate in team meetings and training
  • Assist in daily cleaning and sanitization of the program space

Environmental Factors

  • Must demonstrate stress resistance and stamina in working with youth
  • Regular physical activity associated with program activities, and carrying material/supplies
  • Mental effort is required to deal with stress related to safety and security of youth and delivery of programming and effectively deal with crisis

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Inuit descent preferred
  • Working towards High School diploma
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required in keeping with Inuuqatigiit Personnel Policies and Procedures
  • Medical certification of good health
  • TB Test if applicable and other immunizations up-to-date
  • COVID-19 vaccine (Dose 1 & 2)
  • CPR / First Aid Certification (or willingness to become certified)

Skills and Knowledge

  • Written and spoken fluency in Inuktitut an asset
  • Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities
  • Knowledge of the needs of Inuit youth
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and community
  • Knowledge of Inuit and non-Inuit community services and supports
  • Experience working in an Afterschool program with youth
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to work in a collaborative staff team environment
  • Ability to function effectively in a high stress, high noise environment
  • Ability to respond effectively in crisis situation
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, and commitment to youth
