My name is Billy Parrell and I am a Métis artist facilitator. I have over 5 years of experience facilitating art workshops for youth in downtown Toronto. These sessions, along with personal experience, helped me to develop an understanding of what marginalized people are seeking in urban spaces. I can write grants, create promotional material for events, and run social media. I am familiar with word processing, Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as image processing, such as Adobe Photoshop.
I would be bringing my experience running events independently and as a team. This includes research, production, reporting minutes and managing a budget. I have a passion for cultural programming and nurturing spaces for community building.
Developed a method for teaching traditional Métis style fingerweaving. Was able to engage with students at middle and high school levels to empower them to pursue arts and culture.
Worked closely in a team to produce an online workshop series on creative writing and making zines or art books . Taught youth how to make natural dyes from plants and how to incorporate those materials into their projects.
Practiced filmmaking and editing with a group of Indigenous artists and facilitators in Ottawa and Gatineau. Introduced to new ways of communicating through digital media to allow for storytelling especially for marginalized people.
